Today’s post comes by way of Westheimer Chiropractic. I’ve quite a bit of his blog, and it eloquently expresses the possibility of living a fulfilling, happy, fun life that truly makes a difference for other people.
He expresses a deep gratefulness for his life, which I always find inspiring, and the people in it. At one point in his recent post, he relates how a woman asked him what the story with his chiropractic office was. Everyone who worked there seemed so happy all the time, and so concerned with everyone else’s overall well being beyond even the chiropractic work being done.
Westheimer’s response is telling:
“The sad truth is that most people hate their jobs, are not happy in their relationships, and basically live their lives for the weekend where they have a brief reprieve from their normal life. We at the office truly love our jobs, love our patients, surround ourselves with positive and supportive people, and we worked very hard to put together a team that was equally as passionate about life, and it makes all the difference.”
I love when someone speaks that plainly about what makes life fulfilling. Of course, saying this doesn’t necessarily leave one with an access to that kind of happiness or love of one’s job or the people in one’s life. Westheimer talks then about The Landmark Forum and the idea of “empty and meaningless”, which he takes care to point out is not a dreary idea, but the idea that if life doesn’t have inherent meaning, one is actually free to create the kind of life he talks about above.
The whole post is absolutely worth reading; do yourself a favour and visit the Westheimer Chiropractic blog.
