Grandson of Inspiring Quotes

It’s back! By popular demand (well, not really) I have come out with another batch of inspiring quotes…

“It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.”

“Because I don’t live in either my past or my future. I’m interested only in the present. If you can concentrate always on the present, you’ll be a happy man. …. Life will be a party for you, a grand festival, because life is the moment we’re living right now.”

–from “The Alchemist,” by Paulo Coelho

Happiness is when what you think, what you say,
and what you do are in harmony.
–Mahatma Gandhi
This is my simple religion.
There is no need for temples;
no need for complicated philosophy.
Our own brain, our own heart is our temple;
the philosophy is kindness.
– Dalai Lama
The drop of water can carve the Rock
The glacier can carve the Mountain
Thusly do consistency and perseverance
Overcome all obstacles
– Jon Peniel

“The ultimate Truth is beyond words. Doctrines are words. They’re not the Way.”

—Bodidharma

More Inspiring Quotes

Here are some quotes about making a difference, the desire for which is why I’ve done Landmark Education’s programs.

Sometimes a man imagines that he will lose himself if he gives himself, and keep himself if he hides himself. But the contrary takes place with terrible exactitude.
–Ernest Hello

In giving you are throwing a bridge across the chasm of your solitude.
–Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Be ashamed to die until you have won some victory for humanity.
–Horace Mann

What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal.
–Albert Pike

Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.
–Mohammed Ali

Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You don’t have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.
–Martin Luther King, Jr.

If you think you are too small to be effective, you have never been in bed with a mosquito.
–Betty Reese

Inspiring Quotes

I’ve put together a bunch of quotations and poems that both speak to what Landmark Education is about and also embody my personal philosophy of life!

“Only to the extent that man exposes himself over and over again to annihilation can that which is indestructible arise within him. In this lies the dignity of daring. Thus, the aim of practice is not to develop an attitude which allows a man to acquire a state of harmony and peace wherein nothing can ever trouble him. On the contrary, practice should teach him to let himself be assaulted, perturbed, moved, insulted, broken and battered – that is to say, it should enable him to dare to let go his futile hankering after harmony, surcease from pain, and a comfortable life in order that he may discover, in doing battle with the forces that oppose him, that which awaits him beyond the world of opposites.”

–Karl Graf von Durckheim

“And leaving the zone of everyday occupations and relationships where everything seems clear, I went down into my inmost self, to the abyss whence I feel dimly that my power of action emanates. But as I moved further and further away from the conventional certainties by which social life is superficially illuminiated, I became aware that I was losing contact with myself. At each step of the descent a new person was disclosed with me of whose name I was no longer sure, and who no longer obeyed me. And when I had to stop my exploration because the path faded from beneath my steps, I found a bottomless abyss at my feet, and out of it came–Arising I know not from where–The current which I dare to call my life.”

–Teilhard de Chardin

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
                                    i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

–ee Cummings

The time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other’s welcome,

and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.

–Derek Walcott

“Unbeing dead isn’t being alive.”

–ee Cummings (again!)
